Can blinds be sexy?

It's Sunday, but there's no rest for the wicked so I decided to choose some blinds over breakfast (well, coffee)

I have previously ordered from www.blinds-2go.co.uk and been quite happy so looking back there at all the bewildering range of options... oh God this is dull.

Cut to the chase.

Have gone for 100% pure silk roman blinds made-to-measure, because:

1. i guess they will look great
2. feel sexy
3. cost only 40% more than polyester (there's a sale on)
4. are more fire-resistant than polyester or cotton (according to this twelve-year-old pyromaniac)
5. they have a UV black-out lining (as silk rots with sunlight, hmm)

Any thoughts or opinions welcome. I won't put the order through till tonight or tomorrow, so I have time still to ignore any advice, though much appreciated.

Staring at the ceiling

A therapist once reminded me that if I want to stay at home and stare at the ceiling that's my business and the world can go screw itself, or words to such effect.

Yesterday, during one of those days of near insanity, I tried some home exercise which ended up with my staring at the ceiling *, and I was reminded of my old therapist. I thought, great I should do this more often. Who needs to achieve anything anyway, what's the hurry?

But while I was busy trying not to achieve anything, something on the ceiling caught my attention. It was something I had seem before but could not quite make it out. But now it seemed clearer. An old beam on the ceiling had been cleaned recently, and now a spotlight shone across it revealing what were clearly the remains of some numbers engraved into the wood. I stared at it and some figures started to come into focus: an ancient product code perhaps, pre-dating invention of the pencil?

So I took this photo, and in doing so failed in my attempt to achieve nothing while staring at the ceiling. I'm researching the history of the building - if you recognise this "handwriting" style please let me know.

I'm living in a building undergoing conversion. It's a project: by definition it has a beginning and end (allegedly) and seeks to achieve an outcome. Trouble is I'm living in it, and life is not like that, only projects are. A project is a tool like any other, like a pencil sharpener **. Would you live in a pencil sharpener? Ouch. Well you'd be sharp every day i guess, but eventually it'd eat you up.

I'm constantly torn between an urge to "achieve" and just have fun. As it happens the latter can cover both, so there is no need to focus on the former, but I hear people's voices and it's hard to ignore the fear. But people are like distorted mirrors on ourselves, so these voices are just as well reflections of my own fears. Or something like that.

Ignore those voices, and listen to the voice in your own head. I tell myself.

Or go back and stare at the ceiling.
